FIRE OFFICER 2 Series

The Fire Officer 2 Series is designed for firefighters who are looking to become Fire Service Captains, or other Fire Department leadership positions. The series is based on NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Professional Qualifications. A Fire Officer II is a person having the responsibilities of a Company Officer whose duties include supervising a multi-unit emergency incident. The Fire Officer II may also be referred to as a Managing Fire Officer.

The classes can be purchased as a bundle or as individual classes.

(*All all Fire Officer certifications also require completion of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Courage to Be Safe program. Fire Officers II and III also require ICS training, as noted below. These courses must be taken individually.)

The course materials come directly from the publisher Jones & Bartlett. All course material will be accessed through the JB Learning platform once enrolled.

In addition to enrolling in the Fire Officer 2 Series or any other course, e-Books are included with the courses. If you wish to purchase a physical book you must do so on your own.

If you would like to purchase a physical book, copy the required book's ISBN number for each course and paste it into a web search engine to find the best purchasing option for you. Books can also be purchased at your local technical bookstore.

The Florida Fire Officer II series consists of 5 courses required for the Florida State Fire Fire Officer 2 certification.

The bundle includes the following courses:

Fire Prevention Practices (BFST1505)(online).
- This is a 45-hour self-paced open enrollment, eLearning course and provides 45 CEUs towards Florida Fire Safety Inspector I certification.
- The course meets the requirements of NFPA 1021 and NFPA 1031.
- A study of fire inspection practices, including such items as purpose; definition; fire prevention bureau activities; hazards; fire causes; types of construction including structural features, flame spread, occupancy, and fire load; inspection techniques; conducting inspections.

Fire Service Course Design (BFST2741)(blended, online & in-person).
- This is a 45-hour open enrollment, self-paced eLearning course and provides 45 CEUs towards Florida Fire Instructor and Florida Firesafety Inspector renewal. The course meets the requirements of NFPA 1041 and NFPA 1021.
- This course covers the principles of effective curriculum design. It stresses the principles of adult learning and student-centered learning. Designing courses and units that address the learning, performance, and behavioral objectives is the program goal.
- ***The Fire Service Course Design in-person portion is done in a traditional classroom setting at a location in Miami. This portion of the course is an 8-hour day at a predetermined location in Coral Gables, FL.

Firefighting Tactics and Strategies II (BFST2811)(online).
- This is a 45-hour open enrollment, self-paced, eLearning course and follows the requirements of NFPA 1021. The course is primarily aimed at company officers who may find themselves in control of emergency situations that require close coordination and effective deployment of large numbers of personnel and equipment.
- The curriculum covers multiple company operations, logistics, strategy, use of mutual aid forces, and conflagration control. The course is intended for officers who may be in command of fires and other emergencies involving close coordination and maximum use of large amounts of manpower and equipment. Typical tactical situations and case histories are given. The development of critical thinking skills is stressed.

Private Fire Protection Systems I (BFST1540)(online)
- This is a 45-hour open enrollment, self-paced, eLearning course and provides 45 CEUs towards Florida Firesafety Inspector certificate renewal. The course meets the requirements of NFPA 1021 and NFPA 1031.
- This is a study of private fire protection and detection systems, such as sprinkler and standpipe systems, chemical extinguishing systems, detection systems, and devices. Each system is discussed as to its need, construction, preventative maintenance, and individual uses.
Florida State-Wide Emergency Response Plan (SERP) (RN9572) In-person Delivery.
- This is a 6-hour course and contributes 6 CEUs towards Florida Fire Instructor I, II, and III, Florida Firesafety Inspector I, and Florida Fire Code Administrator certification renewal. The course meets the requirements of NFPA 1041.
- During this course, students will be introduced to Florida's system, components, benefits, and how the system works. Students will also learn the components and processes for mutual aid as well as learn how to run a post-incident analysis to assure that needed information is obtained and used to assist with future emergencies.
