Heartsaver First Aid CPR/AED Training

The Heartsaver First Aid course trains participants first aid basics for the most common first aid emergencies, including how to recognize them, how to call for help, and how to perform lifesaving skills. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) and the 2015 AHA/Red Cross Guidelines for First Aid.

Who should take this course?

The AHA Heartsaver First Aid Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

  • Explain the concepts of the Chain of Survival

  • Recognize when someone needs CPR

  • Perform high-quality CPR for an adult

  • Describe how to perform CPR with help from others

  • Give effective breaths using mouth-to-mouth or a mask for all age groups

  • Demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult

  • Perform high-quality CPR for a child*

  • Demonstrate how to use an AED on a child*

  • Perform high-quality CPR for an infant*

  • Describe when and how to help a choking adult or child

  • Demonstrate how to help a choking infant*

Blended Learning Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED

Blended Learning (online portion, followed by hands-on skills session)

 

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online is the eLearning portion of the Heartsaver CPR AED Blended Learning Course and teaches information needed for CPR and AED training.

 

Upon completion of the online portion, students must complete a hands-on skills session with an AHA BLS or Heartsaver Instructor.

Instructor-led, hands-on class format reinforces skills proficiency.

This course is a video-based and/or Powerpoint Based, instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. It also covers several First Aid topics including first aid basics, medical emergencies, injury emergencies, environmental emergencies, and preventing illness and injury. 

 

This course teaches skills with the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills.

  • Course time:

    • Blended: Approximately 1.5 hours online course with an approximately one-hour skill session after online course completion. 

      • *Skills session needs to be scheduled once the online course is completed. Completion Certificate required to schedule.

      • *Individual learner times will vary; run times will vary based on course path and/or optional topics selected. Breaks are not included in skills session timing.​

    • Classroom: Approximately 2 1/2 hours

  • Course Completion card issued electronically within 24-48 hours of course completion.

  • Course Completion Card is valid for two years.
