The Fire Inspector Series is designed for firefighters who are looking to become Fire Service Safety Inspectors for their respective departments or to apply as Fire Safety Inspectors.
The classes can be purchased as a bundle or as individual classes.
The course materials come directly from the publisher Jones & Bartlett. All course material will be accessed through the JB Learning platform once enrolled.
Once enrolled in any course, you must ensure that you work consistently and diligently to complete the coursework and related requirements in order to successfully complete the course. These open-enrollment courses allow you to pace yourself but will require sufficient self-discipline to keep up to date with the workload. Therefore, it is your responsibility to set aside the time required to complete the various units of these courses. You will be held completely responsible for your own achievements once you purchase the course content.
In addition to enrolling in the Fire Inspector Series or any other course, e-Books are included with the courses. If you wish to purchase a physical book you must do so on your own.
If you would like to purchase a physical book, copy the required book's ISBN number for each course and paste it into a web search engine to find the best purchasing option for you. Books can also be purchased at your local technical bookstore.

“Fire Inspector 1 Series” consists of five courses that meet part of Florida State Fire pre-certification requirements for Fire Inspector 1. The five courses include:

Building Construction for the Fire Service (FFP2120 / BFST2120 / ATCP2120)

This is a 45-hour, self-paced, online fire course with continuous enrollment. It forms part of the mandatory coursework for Florida Fire Officer 1, Florida Fire Inspector 1, and Florida Fire Investigator 1 Certifications. Completion of this course ensures that you are able to meet the Job Performance Requirements required by NFPA 1021 and NFPA 1031.

Students will also earn 45 CEUs towards the Florida State Fire Inspector certificate renewal program.

The curriculum in this portion of the fire prevention inspection certification program deals with building construction.

Topics include identifying hazards from assault by fire and gravity, how building construction can influence fire spread, fire confinement or structural collapse, and many other life safety issues.

This is not a building course per se, but rather a course to identify construction features and their hazards under fire conditions.

Codes and Standards (FFP1510 / BFST1510 / ATCP1510)

This is a 45-hour in-person course with continuous enrollment.

It is part of the required coursework for Florida Fire Inspector 1. Completion of this course ensures that you meet the Job Performance Requirements associated with NFPA 1031.

This course is designed to familiarize inspectors with the five basic units of NFPA 101.

Students can also earn 45 CEUs for Instructor and Inspector renewal certifications.

The course will teach you how to research codes and effectively apply them when carrying out inspections.

You’ll be familiarized with the fire prevention codes used by fire departments across the country. Additionally, you will learn about the effects, and results, of using these codes when it comes to the prevention and containment of fires and other aspects of life safety.

The course also studies various building construction standards and codes used in identifying and preventing design inadequacies that can lead to fire, heat, and smoke spread in old and new structures. You are shown effective ways of developing and implementing effective fire prevention programs in the community, for industries, and in institutions.

Construction Documents and Plans Review (FFP2521 / BFST2521 / ATPC2521)

This is a 45-hour in-person course with continuous enrollment.

It forms part of the required coursework for Fire Officer 1 and Fire Inspector 1 and complies with NFPA 1031. Students can also earn 40 CEUs towards Florida Fire Inspector I certificate renewal.

You will be taught how to understand construction workings, drawings, and specifications as they pertain to the fire service and fire inspections. Interpretation of conventional illustrative communications, as well as an overview of the construction industry, accepted standards, and conventions are included. You’ll also become familiar with the range of symbols, abbreviations, technical projection principles, and geometry the building and construction industry uses.

You’ll be required to demonstrate your understanding and comprehension of this information by finding and interpreting the information contained in genuine drawings and plans.

This curriculum is geared toward teaching the student how to assimilate information contained in working, drawing, and specifications as they relate to the fire inspector. The curriculum includes how to interpret conventional graphic communications.

This is a self-paced, online fire course with continuous open enrollment. It is also one of seven units needed for Florida Fire Officer 2 certification and complies with NFPA 1021 and NFPA 1031.
