Course Information:​

• Building Construction for the Fire Service (BFST2120)

  • This is a 45-hour, self-paced, online fire course that has continuous open enrollment. This course is part of the mandatory coursework required for Florida Fire Officer 1, Florida Fire Inspector 1, and Florida Fire Investigator 1. Completion of this course will ensure that you meet the Job Performance Requirements required by NFPA 1021 and NFPA 1031. 

  • 45 CEUs towards the Florida State Fire Inspector certificate renewal program will be earned after completion. 

  • The curriculum in this portion of the fire prevention inspection certification program deals with building construction. 

  • Topics include identifying hazards from assault by fire and gravity, how building construction can influence fire spread, fire confinement or structural collapse, and many other life safety issues. 

  • This is not a building course per se, but rather a course to identify construction features and their hazards under fire conditions.

• Company Officer (BFST2720)

  • This is a 45-hour, self-paced, online fire course with continuous open enrollment. This course is part of the mandatory coursework for Florida Fire Officer 1. Completion of this course will ensure that you meet the Job Performance Requirements required by NFPA 1021.

  • The course is designed to familiarize students with the kind of problems and issues they will face, and be expected to manage, as first-level Florida Fire Officers.

  • Designed to assist fire officers in solving the varied problems and situations they will be required to manage effectively in today's ever-changing fire service. 

  • The curriculum includes a review of fire department organization and administration, management theory, leadership, communications, motivation, and group dynamics.

• Tactics and Strategies 1 (BFST1810)

  • This is a self-paced, online fire course with continuous open enrollment. The course is one of the required courses for Florida Fire Officer 1 certification. Completion of this course will ensure you are able to meet the Job Performance Requirements required by NFPA 1021.

  • The course is designed to teach students about the essential responsibilities and actions involved in dealing with and managing fire emergencies.

  • The curriculum is designed to cover basic factors involved in coping with a fire emergency and determining the best use of available resources in protecting lives and property. 

  • The course emphasizes the changing nature of an emergency situation and the ways in which the fire officer can evaluate the effectiveness of his or her proposed incident action plan.

• Fire Service Course Delivery (BFST1740)

  • This is a self-paced, online fire course with continuous open enrollment. It is taught using an online format, with a required task book for Presentations. It forms part of the required coursework for Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Instructor II, and Fire Instructor III.

  • The course complies with NFPA 1041, Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, and Florida Rule 69A-37.

  • Students will also earn 45 CEUs towards the Florida Fire Instructor and Florida Fire Safety Inspector renewal.

  • The curriculum draws from many recognized authorities in exploring the methods and mechanics of imparting information and adult learning principles. 

  • The course emphasizes techniques that have wide application in teaching situations, as well as devices for specific areas.  Also stressed are measuring teaching effectiveness and the use of media and visual aids.
